When it comes to improving your health by walking, the magic number may be less than you think.

New research in the Lancet reviewed nearly 60 previous studies and found that people who walked 7,000 steps a day had a 47% lower risk of death, a 25% lower risk of cardiovascular disease and a 6% lower risk of cancer.

Researchers say 7,000 steps per day may be more realistic than the 10,000 that has been the unofficial target for years.
